Shark Tanks Steve Baxter and Glen Richards on the State of Entrepreneurship

The Push, Brisbane’s Entrepreneur Community, is hosting our next event ‘Shark Tank’s Steve Baxter and Glen Richards on the State of Entrepreneurship’ on Wednesday the 7th of February, 2018.

Come along and listen to the perspective of 2 established entrepreneurs, and investors, who have been there and done it all before.

This event will cover:

– Where Queensland and Australia is excelling in supporting Entrepreneurship, and Developing Entrepreneurs.
– Where Queensland and Australia is struggling in terms of growing Entrepreneurship, and providing support for Entrepreneurs, where we are going wrong, and what can be done about it.
– What role Corporates have in supporting and participating in the Entrepreneurial ecosystem.
– What role investors have in the current Startup Ecosystem.
– Advice on how to navigate the first 6 months of your Entrepreneurial journey.
– And Much More.

Drinks and Food will be provided, with plenty of time to meet and mingle before and after the talk. The talk will include a lengthy Q & A session where there will be plenty of time for you to ask Steve and Glen whatever you choose.

Steve Baxter – Queensland Chief Entrepreneur, Investor, and ‘Shark’

Tech start-up investor Steve Baxter is a proud Queenslander, born in the remote town of Cloncurry and raised in Emerald in the State’s central highlands. In 1994, at the age of 23, Steve put his life savings of $11,000 to launch his first start-up, the pioneering internet service provider SE Net, from the spare room of his Adelaide home. SE Net was eventually acquired by Ozemail/UUNet under the stewardship of its founding Director and now Prime Minister, Malcolm Turnbull.

In 2001, Steve and a schoolmate launched his second start-up, PIPE Networks, a provider of wholesale telecoms infrastructure that listed on the ASX in 2005. Eight years later TPG Group acquired it for $373m. Steve spent a year with Google in California in 2008, leading a project to deliver high-speed telecommunications systems across North America.

Since 2010 he has become a major early stage investor in startups leading to the founding of Brisbane tech startup hub River City Labs, founded and underwrote the Startup Catalyst and River Pitch programs; he has been on the listed boards of Vocus Telecoms, Indoor Skydive Australia Group and OtherLevels as well as on the board of Commercialisation Australia. He has been heavily involved in the early days or founding of numerous industry groups and forums, including the South Australian Internet Association, South Australian Internet Exchange, Australian Domain Name Authority, AuDA, INTIAA, IIA, AusBone and AusNOG.

He has been a Shark on Channel 10’s Shark Tank Australia for the past three seasons. In 2006 Steve received the Ernst & Young Entrepreneur of the Year for the Northern Region. In 2016, he received the Pearcey Medal for Lifetime Achievement in recognition of distinguished lifetime achievement and contribution to the development and growth of the ICT industry.
Steve is currently Queensland’s Chief Entrepreneur in which he works to build the profile of entrepreneurship.

Dr Glen Richards – Investor, ‘Shark’, and Founding Managing Director of Greencross Ltd

Glen was the Founding Managing Director (until 2014) and Foundation Shareholder of Greencross Ltd (Australia’s largest veterinary group with a network of veterinary businesses across Australia); He is a Foundation Non- Exec Director and Shareholder of Petbarn Pty Ltd, (Australia’s leading pet retailer with large format pet stores across Australia and New Zealand), and is a past Non-Exec director of Lyppard Australia, one of Australia’s leading Veterinary wholesalers.
Glen retired from his executive role at Greencross Ltd in December 2014. His current directorships include Greencross Ltd, Regeneus Ltd, Smartvet Pty Ltd, 1300Smiles Ltd, myFootDr Pty Ltd, and he is a member of the advisory board for Montserrat Day Hospitals.

Glen is a Shark Tank panellist and investor since 2016. Shark Tank, as well as being prime time entertainment promotes entrepreneurship and innovation and assists early stage entrepreneurs with funding, publicity and mentorship.
